Vlada will be at WWDMAGIC in Las Vegas next week to discuss “THE INTERSECTION OF BEAUTY & AND FASHION” as part of the launch of GLAM – an area at the fashion event that will showcase lip and eye colors, nail polishes, lashes etc. – because a person’s beauty products are now JUST as important as their outfit and accessories! Who hasn’t planned their outfit around a brand-new shade of lipstick? I Heart Heels recently caught up with Vlada…..
What inspires your designs?
VH: Inspiration is everywhere for me. Food, memories, colors, contemporary and surrealist artists. I even did a lip art look inspired by my throw pillow!
What are the new trends in lip art?
VH: It’s hard to tell, I don’t really follow trends. I like to always come up with something new. I like to push my own boundaries and challenge myself.
Do you prefer working with a certain kind of lipstick (gloss? Matte? Liquid?)
VH: I love using liquid to matte lipsticks as a base when creating jeweled or sequined lip looks. And of course, I’m a big fan of GLOSS. Whether it’s dripping or just has a high shine vinyl finish, it always makes a macro lip photo stunning.
Some of your designs are avant-garde, how can we incorporate some lip fun into our daily lives?
VH: In my opinion the most wearable variation of lip art is an ombre lip. Plus, if done correctly, it makes the lips look much more plump.
WWDMAGIC is launching a new area called GLAM. Do you see glam/beauty products (lashes, nail polish, lips, etc.) as an important accessory now?
VH: Yes absolutely, beauty products are an essential part of my life. Not only they are my paints, they are also my confidence boosters! I feel empowered each time I wear a bright red lipstick.
How make-up/GLAM does it affect fashion?
VH: For me, ever since I started wearing red lipstick, my closet got filled with red items of clothing and accessories. Now it’s a complete look from head to toe. That’s fashion!
What does your role as Smashbox Cosmetics Lip Editor in Chief entail?
VH: I create exclusive lip art designs for all the new Smashbox Cosmetics lip launches, I do makeup and sometimes model for photos and videos for new lip campaigns, work with product development on the new lip collections and basically help with all things lips.
We hear you’re creating a coffee table book? Can you tell us anything about it?
VH: Yes, I am very excited about it! I am shooting almost every day creating new unseen looks for it. I want it to be at least 200 pages, so it will take some time. I can’t wait to share it with the world! I have a few surprises coming your way……
