L.A.M.B.: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week S/S 2012
By Sarah Kleinhenz, Fashion Week Correspondent
This was the last collection I saw Sunday, and boy did I save the best for last! The spring collection for Gwen Stefani’s uber-popular clothing line, L.A.M.B., is no less than swoon-worthy (It was B-A-N-A-N-A-S!). The themes that inspired this collection were Rat Pack, high voltage and maharaja. You could see Gwen’s personal style throughout each look. She mixed menswear looks with edgy tailoring and pops of bright, bold colors. Bold stripes, graphic prints and soft patterns were mixed together to create a gorgeous uniform look.
“The nail look at L.A.M.B. was inspired by the graphic ikat prints and Indian themes seen throughout the collection.” — Essie manicurist, Elle, who used Bobbing for Baubles, a muted blue tone
It definitely has to be stepping outside my comfort zone to try something new, which is exactly what fashion should be. Take something you see and make it your own. This is something Gwen has mastered. She takes her style and what she likes and then transforms it into looks that we all can wear. Another creative touch? Some of the bags that didn’t make it into the models hands were displayed in the rafters above us. Each was spotlighted to intensify their beauty. I thought it was a great way to give them their own time to shine.
“The beauty look at L.A.M.B. is inspired by a trip to India. A dark, dramatically-lined eye is the focal point – a modern take on kohl.” — Charlotte Willer, Maybelline Global Makeup Artist
And let’s not forget the shoes, hello? Gwen went with sky-high designs and pops of color mixed with neutrals, just like the clothes. I’m loving that spring is going to be filled with mixing your brightest hues with your classic and wardrobe staple neutrals. If modern and sexy is your thing, make sure you check out this rocking collection next spring. You’ll fall in love with everything!!
