Olivia Culpo on Red Carpet Season and Her Favorite Shoes
Let’s face it. Olivia Culpo is gorgeous. The former Miss USA is not only a beauty queen, she’s a legit actress, model and cellist, too. I mean, of course she is. I’m lucky I got the chance to catch up with her with her busy awards season schedule (did you see her stunning Golden Globes gown?).
Read below on what she thinks of Rachel Zoe and her favorite shoes of the moment.
I Heart Heels: It’s red carpet season, and I think you looked absolutely amazing at the Golden Globes. Who styled you and what was the inspiration for your dress?
Olivia Culpo: For the Golden Globes, I was styled by Anita Patrickson in a Zuhair Murad dress. I fit for the dress the day before the Golden Globes. It was the first dress I tried on – and the only dress I tried on. I immediately fell in love with it! There were a few inspirations behind the dress, one being that I hadn’t worn a full-skirted gown to any formal event yet. I wanted to try something different. The jewel tones and embellishment of the dress were so intricate, and I knew it was a fashion statement I couldn’t resist!
IHH: Which other celebrity was one of your favorite looks?
OC: My other favorite looks from the Golden Globes were Blake Lively, Lily Collins and Drew Barrymore. I loved their over-the-top wardrobe choices, jewels, and hair/makeup. All of their looks were a bit glam inspired and for me that’s always the way to go for a red carpet event.
IHH: You looked amazing wearing Charlotte Tilbury makeup on Twitter. What’s the secret to pulling off a bold lip?
OC: I think the secret to pulling off a bold lip is balance. If you’re going to do a really deep red lip then you have to make sure you’re going to keep the rest of your make up light, especially your eye makeup. With the right balance I actually feel like a bold lip can make you look more awake, especially a bright red lip like I had for The Today Show after my red-eye straight from the Golden Globes.
“Happiness is letting every situation be what it is instead of what you think it should be.” — Olivia Culpo
IHH: You recently met Rachel Zoe. Tell us all the details on how it went down – love her.
OC: I’ve known Rachel Zoe for a while and I’ve always been a huge fan of hers. She is, in my opinion, the true definition of a “girl boss.” I’m truly inspired by how she’s able to balance such a successful career and family. Last week when I was with Rachel Zoe, we were both speaking on the CES panel in Vegas. We were talking about the influence of social media on fashion marketing and also about our own successes and difficulties with social media. It was an honor to be alongside somebody I really admire.
IHH: The shoes you’re currently obsessed with at this very moment?
OC: Any sort of over-jeweled heel. Dolce & Gabbana has a ton of really beautiful examples out right now.
IHH: Do you have a New Year’s resolution?
OC: I made so many New Year’s resolutions! They range from really silly things like trying to eat breakfast every morning to more serious resolutions like trying to be more in the moment and less on my phone. I think the most important resolution that I made this year was to have fun and enjoy every moment of work and try not to take everything too seriously. At the end of the day, if something isn’t fun, then what’s the point?
IHH: Complete this sentence. Happiness is…
OC: Letting every situation be what it is instead of what you think it should be.
