The Latest Footwear Trends from Leslie Gallin, Leading Lady of FN PLATFORM
In just a few short weeks, the fashion industry will convene in Las Vegas for MAGIC, the most comprehensive fashion marketplace spanning across apparel, accessories, footwear and manufacturing. With that will be FN PLATFORM, the international showcase of branded footwear featuring men’s, women’s, junior’s and children’s brands from more than 20 countries. Each year, we’ve had the opportunity to chat with FN PLATFORM’s leading lady, Leslie Gallin, President of Footwear at UBM Fashion, on the latest footwear trends. Leslie has given us the inside scoop on what’s to come at this year’s show as well as what styles fashionistas will be coveting in the season to come.
Can you tell us a bit about what’s to come at this coming FN PLATFORM show?
We have an exciting 3 days ahead of us! For this show, we are showcasing a lot of new talent. Buyers will be able to identify which brands are new by a notation in the directory, floor stickers in front of those new booth brands and on the interior booth ID sign. We’re proud to have 10 brands coming from France under the prestigious guidance of ADC. This will be the first time outside of Paris the brands have exhibited.
FN PLATFORM is known for its opening night concerts – this show, the group BERLIN, most known for “Take My Breath Away” will perform. We’ve also upgraded the décor for each of our themed-show floor lounges. We have a great opportunity to give back with Build-A-Bear on-site. Those attending can create a bear and donate to the Children’s Hospital Las Vegas.
We have an artistic view of footwear being installed, which we hope will inspire. For those who want to know more about the future, we will have an area on the show floor spearheaded by Samsung, showing off their latest technology for footwear sizing.
Any favorite brands we should keep an eye out for?
There are so many noteworthy brands coming this show. A few of my favorites that are new to the show are: Supply Lab, Freestyle by Coolway, Adrienne Vittadini and Patricia Green. Other brands that are back this year are: Katy Perry, Rebecca Minkoff, Bill Blass, Hunter and Aquatalia.
What are your go-to spots to hit while in Las Vegas?
My favorite restaurants when in Vegas are Milos at the Cosmopolitan and Weiss’ Deli in Henderson. If I have an extra day to unwind, the spa at The Wynn. For shopping, pawn shops are a hidden gem. Some of my best buys in jewelry have been in Las Vegas pawn shops.
Leslie’s favorite upcoming trends to watch for:
MULES + SLIDES
Cool girls everywhere have adopted the mule trend. The slip-and-go style offers a sense of effortlessness. Worn in flats or heels, closed or open toes – this go-to style can easily be worn from day-to-night and transcend from spring/summer through the fall.
DETAILS: FUR TRIM, FEATHERS AND PEARLS
There’s an eye for the details in the coming seasons. Everything from fur-trimmed looks to feather and pearl accents. These statement-making frills call for a bold take on classic silhouettes.
KITTEN HEELS
The newest ‘it’ style, our grandmother’s favorite heel has made a comeback! Understated. yet chic, the kitten heel offers a sense of sophistication (think classic old-school pumps) without sacrificing wearability.
SNEAKERS
If there’s one shoe silhouette that’s reigned supreme the past few seasons, it’s the sneaker style. Typically seen in an all-white colorway, the look is still dominating. From low to high tops, slip on to lace ups, this comfort staple is here to stay.
BOOTIES
Now a classic, booties are still holding strong. A style that easily transcends through the seasons, booties are here to stay. From flats to heels, open toes to lace-ups – there’s a bootie look for everyone.
