L.A.M.B.: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2012
By Sarah Kleinhenz, Fashion Week Correspondent
Prints, plaid and pops of neon yellow were all abuzz at Gwen Stefani’s fall 2012 L.A.M.B. presentation. The influence for this collection were the original rock-and-roll girls of the early 60’s. Narrow pants, wildly-printed jumpsuits and flared mini skirts definitely were reminiscent of that era. Neon yellow was paired with black and white prints and subtle greys to add some finesse to those crop pants or pencil skirts already in our closets. The neon was even carried down to the platform heels the models were wearing! OMG!!!
“This season, I came across an editorial of a modern day 60’s sweater girl. This took me back to the early days of rock music and rebellious teenagers of the 60’s, who have influenced almost every era since then, including Punk and Ska. I mixed this with all of the other images I have always loved and worn throughout my life, like houndstooth, black and white graphics, some military knitwear, a little argyle, and a snakeskin print for good measure. I’ve had a lot of fun with this season. I think it’s modern and super stylish, but easy to wear. It includes all of the things I love with something for everyone.” — Gwen Stefani, designer
A sweater with the word “punk” was definitely an eye-catcher and going to be H-O-T this fall. My favorite “out there” look? The yellow and black houndstooth skirt and jacket. This is a fabulous statement for the bold and brave. Sky-high beehives and thick black lashes (Volum’ Express The Falsies Flared Mascara in Very Black) amped up each models look. It added just the right amount of sexy and sweet to the looks.
“The makeup look at L.A.M.B. is inspired by a sixties rock-and-roll chick. We put a modern, yet girlish spin on retro.” — Charlotte Willer, Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist
When viewing this collection you can definitely see Gwen in all of the looks. I love that she stays true to herself and designs looks just as she likes, which in turn are looks we all obsess over. Pretty meets punk for fall at L.A.M.B. So get ready to show that rocker side you’ve been hiding all these years!
