The RealReal Luxury Designer Resale Site Launches

We’ve recently stumbled upon a new luxury designer resale site called The RealReal. (um, and we like…the Louboutins here were priced at $150 in the holiday lookbook sent to us, hello) The members-only (free) site, was co-founded by Julie Wainwright (former CEO of Reel.com and Pets.com) and top stylist Marcy Carmack, who curates everything on the site beautifully. We had the chance to sit down with Marcy and find out exactly what sets their business apart – oh, and the importance of editing your closet! Enjoy!

I Heart Heels: Loving the idea of The RealReal! What are some of the key ways your site stands out from other “flash sale” and “members-only” discount shopping sites?
Marcy Carmack: We’re the only flash sale site for consignment. We’re also the only flash sale site that has Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, YSL…high-end-brands only.
 

IHH: The process seems so seamless to consign – is it really that easy!?
MC: The process is easy because you don’t have to go to [an actual store] on a certain day and time, you can send us things at anytime. If you live in San Francisco, L.A. or Dallas, someone can even come and pick them up.

 
IHH: What’s the key to finding great consignment pieces…any consignment shopping tips? 
MC: Go to curated sites or stores so you don’t have to sift through as much. Prior to The RealReal, I went to a brick and mortar in New York that wasn’t curated, but was clean and well organized. At The RealReal, we curate and present it in a clean and beautiful way.

 
IHH: You’ve been a stylist for a long time. Any secret ingredients for putting together an everyday outfit that really shines? 
MC: You have to do the hard work before putting together that everyday outfit. Only have clothes in your closet that are 10’s on the scale in their ability to fit and flatter your figure. That way every day you go to your closet, you’ll only put together things that shine on you.
