Fillers vs Botox: Are They The Same Thing?
Dermal fillers and Botox are two of the most common cosmetic beauty procedures out there. Most of us know at least one person who’s had either of these treatments. They’re popular due to their effectiveness, but also their accessibility. Neither are overly expensive and you don’t need to go under the knife at all.
As such, they represent great little beauty treatments to give you a boost of confidence. The question is, are they the same thing? Do fillers and Botox do the exact same thing? Read on to find out more…
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable beauty treatments provided by cosmetic specialists. As shown here: www.melroseaesthetics.com/services, they typically come in two varieties – facial fillers and lip fillers.
Depending on the treatment you request, you’ll have a solution injected under your skin, which plumps up the area and fills it out. This can help you avoid fine lines and wrinkles in parts of your face while bringing more volume to certain areas. Indeed, lip fillers are popular because they make your lips look bigger and juicier!
What is Botox?
Botox is also an injectable cosmetic treatment. Funnily enough, it too will help you iron out wrinkles. The key difference between it and dermal fillers lies in what gets injected into you.
As mentioned above, dermal fillers inject a concentrated solution – usually consisting of hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid. This solution sits beneath the skin to improve its appearance and give it more plumpness. As a result, the skin is stretched out and appears smoother.
When you are injected with Botox, you’re getting injected with Botulinum toxin – a neurotoxin that interacts with your nerves. It’s used in very small doses and basically forces the nerves in your face to shut off, stopping small muscles from activating. The idea is to prevent you from making facial expressions or doing things that cause wrinkles, like frowning or squinting. Because the small muscles responsible for these actions are temporarily turned off, your skin looks a lot smoother and younger.
Which is better, dermal fillers or Botox?
It depends! If you want plumper lips, fillers are clearly a better option. Also, if you want more natural-looking results, fillers could be better.
On the other hand, Botox lasts a lot longer and you won’t need as many top-up appointments.
Or, you could opt for neither! If smooth skin is what you’re after, consider other cosmetic treatments or skincare routines. Focus on hydrating your skin and initiating collagen production to keep your skin taught and plump. You may see results by using regular skincare products. If not, then it can be helpful to consider either of the two injectable treatments mentioned above.
We’ve made this post to educate you on fillers and Botox. We know lots of people confuse the two, so hopefully this has cleared things up. Both are very effective cosmetic treatments that are good at doing different things. We’re absolutely not saying you need either of them – but if you want a cosmetic procedure, you now know how to pick between the two!
