Kelly Helfman Shares On WWDMAGIC, Women’s Trends
You may have seen our chat with the queen of footwear, Leslie Gallin, of FN PLATFORM earlier this week. Our countdown to MAGIC wouldn’t be complete without getting the scoop on what’s in store for apparel and accessories, which is why we’ve called in Kelly Helfman, Vice President and Brand Director of WWDMAGIC, FAME, Accessories the Show and POOL. Kelly gives us a glimpse at what’s in store for WWDMAGIC and the women’s trends all fashionistas are dying to know.
In addition to the fashion, WWDMAGIC launched an area called GLAM just last February! The area has more than doubled in size and features the hottest beauty brands on the market. We had a chance to chat with the beloved beauty boy, Makeup by Samuel, who will also be making an appearance at WWDMAGIC next week. Here’s everything you need to know:
* New Areas – A brand new area called ON:LINE will launch in Young Contemporary, in partnership with FashionGo. This area represents the evolution of the tradeshow experience by merging the traditional tradeshow with the digital experience. WWDMAGIC will be the first ever tradeshow to introduce a unique concept like this. A highly-curated group of 30 brands will showcase a sampling of their collections so that retailers can get a feel for the style and quality. Buyer’s can then go online and order the full collection, which can consist of anywhere from 200-500 pieces. This streamlines the tradeshow experience and allows buyers ease and access to these brand’s products 24/7.
* The 90’s Are Back – The overall theme this show is the 90’s. WWDMAGIC will feature a 90’s fashion installation (complete with arcade games!) and will highlight some its best trends – not limited to scrunchies, overalls and skinny glasses!
* Celebrity Appearances – Speaking of the 90’s best, singer JoJo will make an appearance at the show! Don’t miss her performance at 5:30pm on Monday, 8/13 in the WWDMAGIC Hub.
* Top Trends in ready-to-wear & accessories – Kelly was kind enough to round up her top trends for the coming season in both RTW and Accessory categories:
1. Sequin Fever
Bring on the sparkle; sequins are back! Embellished apparel is traveling beyond the holiday season and making its way into every day fashion wear. This glam look can be spotted on everything from slinky gowns to sequined skirts and embellished sleeves. Go on and get that shimmer on!
1. 80’s Shoulders
Pump up the volume! We’re traveling back to the 80’s. Power shoulders are coming back to offer a structured look that’s equal parts cool and sophisticated.
1. Bold Yellows
Crayola brights are back! Say ‘so long’ to millennial pink and ‘hello’ to Gen-Z yellow, as dubbed by the Man Repeller. This pop of color adds instant personality while remaining carefree and effortless.
Skyler + Madison
1. Cowgirl Chic
The wild, wild west is getting an urban makeover – and the result is quite chic! Everything from fringe to western-inspired silhouettes and accents are making their way onto outerwear, apparel and accessories. Wear with modern details like high-top sneakers or a sleek coat for a chic western-meets-city vibe.
1. Iridescent Hologram
The holographic look is both futuristic and glam! The glistening tone is showing up on everything from accessories, party dresses and beauty products. Taking the place of classic metallics, the holographic look adds next level shine!
1. Colored Animal Prints
While animal prints have become somewhat of a classic, this season’s look offers a new take featuring exotic prints in monochrome tones. Think bold colors link deep reds, yellows, greens and blues – the fierce trend is heading to the urban jungle!
1. Statement Tights
From floral patterns to glitters and studs, statement tights are this season’s wardrobe staple. Easily elevate a simple outfit by adorning your lower extremities with bold patterns, textures and colors. Both stylish and practical, this accessory is perfect for transitional months.
