Missoni for Fall/Winter 2017
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Missoni fan or not, you have to admit that wearing a Missoni piece is special. That’s why I never could get past the whole Target collaboration. Missoni? Eh. In the loosest sense it was. These high-end collections just scream art, creativity and, of course, quality. It’s art – and craftsmanship.
When fashion tells a story, it’s incredible. These pieces aren’t just garments, but “a statement of the versatility and permutability of a fashion that designs and redesigns itself on the body of each individual woman; exalting her personal uniqueness and style.”
Sophisticated Art
According to the release, “Missoni’s put-together approach for AW 2017 translates into a free combination of sophisticated macro-ribbed and pleated textures that create an almost kinetic movement through the use of bicolor strips and the polychromes of abstract paintings; executions and techniques that neither repeat themselves nor cross over into different pieces.”
I once flipped over the rug in our beach house a few summers ago to find the label, “Missoni.” I knew it. It’s hard to escape that timeless look of pattern. And I sort of laughed as we were using it to put down the baby at the time in the “baby’s room” of the house. She comes by her love for fashion and taste quite honestly, right? She didn’t have a chance.
In this fall collection, I love the partially-knitted motifs within the knitwear (so cool), and how the heavier bouclé wools balance with lighter weight fabrics. There’s nothing quite like a big sweater with a maxi skirt. Pairings and overlaps of stripes, checks, lamé melanges, pure white and lively hues; from yellow to orange, from turquoise to violet and red are all inspiring and have me ready to be cozy and cute all over again this fall. Give me that yellow and blue combo, puh-lease.
