How I Styled My Bump: Capes Forever
I’m so excited to be pregnant in full-blown winter. No really I am! Obviously that means bundling up (as much as we do down south) in gorgeous capes, ponchos and boots. I mean, I don’t even have to worry about painting my toes (because trust me, it’s a struggle as of late). While I do have some awesome maternity jeans, I’m naturally drawn to leggings, leggings, leggings. And can you blame me? They’re just comfier and easier to throw on when I’m dashing to get little C. around. Pregnancy the second time around is def different than the first…both pros and cons! (pro: I hardly have time to dwell on the little aches and pains. con: I hardly have time to dwell on the aches and pains…aka sit
down.)
So one of my fav capes of all is this black knitted one sent to me by Seraphine Maternity. I found out about this label via my Twitter friend Emma Bing (daughter of author Heidi Murkoff and therefore the inspiration for the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” books!). I’m so thankful because this cape is literally getting me through the third trimester. The cape is made of a lambs wool knit blend, so it’s plenty warm and many times I layer it over long sleeves. The contrasting gunmetal makes it not just another black cape (as well as the super-cute mandarin collar with metal detail). It’s so modern and so flattering! Hey, ask Sienna Miller…she sported it while pregnant!
No matter what you wear with it, make sure it’s a skinny bottom to balance the trapeze fit of the cape. And I like to wear mine with ankle boots for that extra lift! 😉 I can hardly believe it, but less than a couple of months now, baby L. will BE here. Squeal!
P.S. Notice the remnants in the background of our lil’ ice storm that kept us in a few days. And can you tell it literally started sleeting on me in the top photo? Crazy weather be gone by February!
Here’s how I styled my bump:
* Black cape gifted by Seraphine Maternity (sometimes I wear it with gray leggings!)
* Black leggings by Nicole Richie for A Pea in a Pod (a goodie I kept from pregnancy #1…love how the ankles have ruching, and they fit just right under the belly.)
* Bracelet by Swarovski
* Suede ankle booties gifted by Alberto Fermani (truly a closet staple…I can wear them all day long trudging around New York City, that’s how comfortable.)
* Green handbag gifted by Coach (this is actually a men’s bag and going to serve as one of my many diaper bags…hey, a mom can never have too many, right?)
