School will be out soon enough but how’s your summer itinerary looking? All planned out with plenty to do? No? Not even started? Oh dear. Six weeks with the little ones, and not an idea in the brain bank. Read on and let’s get this year’s summer school holiday sorted!
School holidays don’t have to be an expensive occasion. Just one or two days out thrown into the mix of cost–efficient shenanigans is definitely the way forward, and will strike the balance between happy kids and a healthy bank balance!
Don’t break the bank when it comes to children’s clothing either. Although it goes without saying that you will need to top up on a few bits and pieces after a year of school attire, children’s clothing from George at ASDA is fantastically fashionable and just the right kind of price to endure all that fun you’ll they’ll be indulging in, without any worry.
Hunt for Gruffalo
Take the little ones into the woods and read the Julia Donaldson classic together. When the mouse has worked his crafty magic, have a wander around the woodland looking for tale-based clues. Hunting that Gruffalo out, or maybe even the little brown mouse, is the kind of activity that makes very special family memories.
Take a Trip to the Seaside
Wherever you’re based, this is the ideal opportunity for parents to kick back and relax too, while youngsters can play in the sand, digging for treasure and building sandcastles. Watch out for those troublesome pirates!
Ride the Thrills and Spills
This is one day out that simply has to be done. A little costly, but well worth it, and as a treat it’s definitely doable. Whether you opt for a fairground or head to a theme park (such as the UK’s Blackpool Pleasure Beach) a day of rides and rollercoasters will keep all ages entertained.
Make the Most of your Local Leisure Center
Many leisure centers run free swims and sport sessions for children during the school holidays. Check locally to see what your council has to offer.
Have a Bake Off
Bake cupcakes, cake pops and layer cakes one morning, then spend an afternoon around the table getting stuck in and decorating your sweet treats. It doesn’t have to be a work of art, and forget about the mess, it’s all about trying out different activities with the kids.
Organize a Sports Day
Rally up the troops and organize a day on the playing fields for your children and their friends. Whether you have girls, boys or both, games of football or cricket will get them out in the open and allow them to run off some energy too.
Plan a Picnic
Pack some sandwiches, drinks and sausage rolls and spend a leisurely lunch at your local park or woods. It’s different to the norm, but the kids will dig it.
Get the children’s clothing ordered online, and then prepare for it to get lots of wear during a low cost, stress-free summer to remember.
