DL1961 is one of the newer jeans brands on the block, so I was super thrilled to be able to attend their runway show to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Since DL only designs jeans, I was really interested to see what their runway show would be like.
The show took place at Pier 57 in Chelsea. I love when designers find new and unique places to hold their shows. It just makes them more interesting and fun. With white curtains as the entrance to the runway, chandeliers hanging from the rafters and the night sky behind us, the anticipation of what was to come was killing us. All of a sudden the music started and girls dressed in jeans and leotards started dancing down the runway. For about 30 seconds everyone was really confused as to if these were models, if this was the show, or what was going on? Turns out that these dancers were the introduction to the show itself. Once they were finished, models started strutting down the runway in spring’s hottest jean trends. DL1961 actually partnered with Nylon’s Style Editor-at-Large, Dani Stahl, to style the show, as well as Julia Samersova Adler from E!’s “Scouted” to cast.
Red leather, brocade, embellishments, waxed with zippers, moto and ombre faded jeans will be DL1961’s hottest designs. Each of these can go from day to night – soft to rocker. I love how versatile this line is. Am I sold? You bet your four-inch stilettos I am. And the first pair coming to my closet? The red leather pair, of course! Hello, major fashion statement, not to mention red is such a great color to mix and match. If you haven’t tried this brand, get up and go! They’re well made, comfortable and reasonably affordable given their competition. Plus, who doesn’t want something different from your favorite ol’ blue jeans? Mix it up for spring (um, acid-washed jeans are baaaack), and you won’t be sorry!
P.S. Besides yours truly, guests included DJ Mia Moretti and Electric Violinist Caitlin Moe, British Singer/Song Writer Neon Hitch, Model Jessica Hart, Actresses Kristin Chenoweth and Jana Kramer, Actor Chaske Spencer and reality TV personalities Simon van Kempen and Alex McCord. It was packed!
