Richard Chai has def made his name in the fashion world and has recently teamed up with EFFEN Vodkato design a one-of-a-kind dress inspired by EFFEN’s gorgeous design. Last month, I had the fabulous opportunity to attend the unveiling at the Dream Downtown Hotel in the Electric Room in New York. Guests mingled while sipping a few signature cocktails made with Effen’s flavored vodka. I chose the “Couture” cocktail, of course. After most guests had arrived and were able to enjoy the cocktails and light bites, it was time to reveal the reason we all came to the Electric Room: the dress.
Richard used the sleek, handcrafted elements of the EFFEN bottle – which included its unique, hand-affixed, latex sleeve – as the inspiration for the piece. Mixing the fluidity of chiffon with satin and structured silk taffeta helped bring the elements of the bottle to life. Hilary Roda graciously modeled the gown, and looked amazing in the grey frock, accessorized with jewelry courtesy of Flutter by Jill Golden. Not to mention Alejandro Ingelmo (super shoe crush alert!) outfitted her with shoes to go with this one-of-a-kind dazzler. I don’t know about you, but this has my creative juices flowing. What object can I use to design a gorgeous dress, pair of shoes or bag of my own? Come on all you DIYers, this sounds like a new project to me!
P.S. The gown will eventually be auctioned off in support of DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS.This event marked another phase of the RC’s year-long partnership with EFFEN and DIFFA, as this past March he collaborated with them to develop DIFFA’s first-ever standalone lounge installation for their 15th annual DINING BY DESIGN tour.
