Christian Siriano: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week S/S 2012
By Sarah Kleinhenz, Fashion Week Correspondent
There are only two words I have to describe the Christian Siriano spring collection; Effortlessly chic. Y’all, he knocked it out of the ballpark this season. Yes, you’ill see some similar styles and designs from seasons past, but the colors, fabrics and textures he uses work – and that’s why he is where is he today. Christian stated that his inspiration for this collection was exotic tropical underwater specimens found when traveling to Bali, Honduras and Belize. So you can see why I drooled over every look that strutted down the runway.
The rich color palette was like a fruit stand of fabulousness. With melon, citrine, chartreuse, and coral as his main hues, he chose to mix them with neutrals for an amazing collaboration of bold with basic. Jersey, crepe, organza, satin, tulle, and the spring “it’ fabric chiffon were mixed and matched to create this amazing look of casual meets dramatic. When reading the press kit for this show, I saw he was pairing a jersey t-shirt with a crepe trumpet skirt and it gave me this picture of something of a casual everyday look. When the first model came out and walked down the runway, my jaw just about hit the floor. I was thinking, how gorgeous is this simple design? I mean, we are used to thinking of looks that can’t be worn by everyday fashionistas, but his collection I could totally see being worn to everything from a lavish party to some even being worn to (gasp) work! To say that I’m lusting over his spring collection would be a serious understatement. I’ve been a fan of Christian’s since he was on Project Runway. He just understands fashion so amazingly well, and he knows how to design amazingly flattering garments for women.
Once, I picked my jaw up off the floor, I concentrated on none other than what we all know and love at I Heart Heels, the shoes! Christian’s been working with Payless for a little while now, and has a new collection coming out in February with the store. It’s called Christian Siriano Gold. This line is all about going from runway to reality. He used coral, tortoise shell, and jellyfish shapes, materials and embellishments to design these affordable shoes. There will be nine styles in this collection as well as a few handbags. I don’t know about you, girlies, but I can’t wait to get my hands on these shoes. I just knew when I saw these styles on the models that they were going to be way out of this girl’s ever-so-small budget. I was thrilled to see that they were his collection with Payless, which means we can all look just as fab as the models in our heels. Just another reason to heart Christian just a little bit more.
