Whiny Wednesday: Happy Feet
I admit it. I have a major obsession with baby shoes – it’s true! While baby C. has tons of the “shoe socks,” I have to fess up that he has several pairs of footwear as well (hello, look at his mom’s Web site!). Just as he has his own pair of flip-flops, he also has this new pair of tennis shoes sent over from Pediped ($32). I thought I was going to die when I saw these little canvas charmers! Swoon, right?
I know, I know. Most people think baby shoes are a waste, and I think they very well are as a newborn (baby C. didn’t even get but one use out of those little crochet puppy booties I bought him!). And “real shoes” are not recommended at such a young age for proper foot development. The difference here? Pediped footwear (“the next best thing to bare feet”) is actually designed for those first steps. (Pedi- is for pediatrician and ped is Latin for foot.) These pre-walkers are recommended by The American Podiatric Medical Association, and they closely mimic barefoot walking and the natural shape of a child’s foot. The style shown here is the Sam in Navy (also available in Olive) and has velcro snaps (so you can fasten while picking up his pacifier with the other hand, right?). The soles are made of a double layer of leather, plus a foam pad for extra cushioning. It also makes them ideal for inside the house or outside on the pavement. Well, inside the stroller, that is. Baby C.’s got several more months before those little feet actually hit the pavement (whew).
P.S. They run large, so plan for the larger end of the sizing spectrum (i.e. 6-12 months fits 10 months or so).
P.P.S. Nicole Richie’s tots Sparrow and Harlow wear them, and so do Tori Spelling’s and Jessica Alba’s kids!
