NY Fashion Week F/W 2010: Jill Stuart
Since I couldn’t make Jill Stuart‘s show at the NY Public Library myself, I was glad correspondent D. volunteered! Her show is always one of my favs (not to mention, it draws tons of celebs! This year it was Mena Suvari and AnnaLynne McCord). Here are the exclusive deets of what went down::
For her Fall/Winter 2010 collection Jill Stuart cited a return to American Sportswear as her inspiration.
“I just was feeling going back to my roots, which is American Sportswear. My first collection was a kilt skirt that was in the movie “Clueless,” and this time I wanted to do a modern kilt like I was thinking of mixing a tutu and a kilt and making it really girly.”
Stuart translated this to runway with a lot of knitwear and plaid, paying attention to crisp tailoring and draping, and by mixing prints and textures. There were fun plaids that were a little “schoolgirl,” some military influence in detailing, and knitwear accessories (slouchy caps, mitten and scarves) that gave a downtown edge to even the more cocktail-appropriate dresses.
For hair and makeup, the girls were given a Bardot-inspired bedhead and makeup, feline-like rocker eyes and sweet nude cheeks and lips.
The overall look was a gorgeous contradiction; glam casual… a well planned out “I just threw this on” look. I imagine I’d wear this look on a cold day running around Paris…or maybe just to Starbucks. 😉
