Whiny Wednesday: SIDS Awareness Month
October is SIDS Awareness Month, and as I prep for baby C. during this last month, I’m trying to focus on what’s best for him (I know, duh). And while I shudder to think of it, that means anything I can do to reduce SIDS, the leading cause in infant death under the age of one. Instead of loose blankets (which don’t need to be in the crib at all), swaddling is the perfect way to ensure baby is safe and sound.
I love the HALO SleepSack ($29.95) (not just because of the super-soft and pretty dot pattern, although that does help!) because it’s basically a safe and handy, breathable and wearable little baby blanket. You can remove the swaddle and use it as a blanket alone, and it’s convenient because it zips for diaper changes. The swaddle can even be moved down for an arms-out approach. It’s won countless parenting awards, so I feel comfortable with baby C. sporting it those first months (as he sleeps on his back, of course, the recommended way for infants to sleep now to prevent SIDS).
Another prevention method is breastfeeding, that’s why I’ve been stocking up on anything and everything nursing. And while convenience is key, I still gotta look chic, gals. Nursing camis will be key to my new wardrobe (under a super-hot button-down, perhaps? I don’t know…), and so in my closet right now (thanks to Medela!) is the Medela Nursing Cami in black ($34.99). Can you believe it’s made of bamboo? So it’s extra-soft on my skin, and I am loving that. The cami offers that extra layer of fabric, too, an important selling point for us modest folks like me. So, now what to choose – black or white? Easy answer. Black is slimming and a chic girl’s best friend. Here’s to stylish nursing! – xoxo
