Shoshanna, designed by native New York and fellow chicster, Shoshanna Gruss, is one of my fav go-to party dress lines. Feminine with just the right touch of sweetness and chicness, this girl knows how to fit us fashionistas with a little extra junk in our trunk. And of course, I’m a fan of her super-fun bathing suits as well. So, I was so pumped to hear Shoshanna is now teaming up with her longtime friend, designer Charlotte Ronson, on a new swimwear line, Made with Love. (still crying real tears, by the way, that I missed the launch party at the Thompson LES last week!!)
Since I was unable to attend the party, I was more than squealing when Shoshanna was able to answer my latest burning questions on the fly (as she exchanged a pair of shoes, no less!). Here’s what she had to say!
IHH: Your fashion obsessions of the moment are…
SG: Lanvin necklaces – the bigger, the better!!
IHH: I have to ask. Is it heels or flats for you?
SG: Heels! The absolute highest heels I can find!!
IHH: What are you doing at this very moment?
SG: Ironically, I am exchanging a pair of shoes at Barneys. Bottega Veneta – I think they ran a little big this season!
IHH: How would you describe your everyday style?
SG: My everyday style is pretty casual, but clean. I usually wear ANLO jeans and American Apparel t-shirts and Chloe boots. I love my Jennifer Meyer gold necklaces. I wear them everyday.
IHH: What’s the essence of your Shoshanna spring collection – in a nutshell – and maybe the most versatile piece in it?
SG: My spring 09 collection is all about bright pop color and vintage floral prints. I would say the shift dress is the most versatile piece in the collection. It takes you from a day at the office to a dinner or party at night with a simple change of accessories.
IHH: I can’t wait to check out your Made With Love collaboration with Charlotte Ronson. Tell me a bit about it. Where can I purchase and when?
SG: Collaborating with Charlotte was tons of fun. We always wanted to do something together so this was the perfect opportunity. The collection is a great combo of both our styles – a very vintage, bohemian feel.
The bikinis are in stores now! Check out Saks, Bloomingdales, Shopbop and Charlotte Ronson stores.
IHH: How long have you and Charlotte been friends and did (or do) you take shopping trips together for inspiration? How is your style different from hers?
SG: Charlotte and I have been friends since grade school. We both are inspired by the 60s and 70s, but interpret it in different ways. We take shopping trips together for inspiration, but mostly for SHOPPING!!! We are great shopping partners!
IHH: How old is too old to wear a bathing suit? And which style would you advise for someone who is curvy?
SG: There’s no age limit – it’s all about being in shape and wearing what makes you feel good. I know some older women who are in amazing shape and can wear a string bikini better then some younger girls! Curvy girls want to look for suits with support. Halter tops are super supportive. Also, look for string bottoms because they are easily adjustable.
Thanks, Shoshanna, for the amazing interview and the best of luck with your newest collaboration!
