Fashion Week: Christian Siriano
I didn’t get to see Christian Siriano‘s show at the tents because I was flying (or attempting to fly, argh) back home. But here’s a peek at what went down, including inside info on the Cleopatra-style hair. He unveiled his first line for Payless, too, something we could seriously take into account with the way the economy is shaping up right now (everything is under $45!). The line will launch in September. Check out this video of Christian explaining his line – you can see how crazy it is in the tents and backstage!
The inspiration for his collection was Egyptian, and the shoes also echo this with unique, chunky conical heels made to mirror a pyramid – true Christian Siriano style if you ever watched him on Project Runway.
“The collection is inspired by Egypt, but not in literal terms. I referenced the pyramids, hieroglyphics and shadows. Soft sculptural shapes in muted tones evoke the Egyptian desert—soft stone, rich camel tones, deep browns and muted brick shades. There is a pop of jewel tones, while the folds of the fabric reference shadow casting in hieroglyphics. I created rich and luxe Pyramid sleeves and sculptural shapes and details for a different version of a ruffle—strong yet feminine.”
John Reyman for Aveda did the hair for the show and focused on a clean chignon with a strong center part and accented with a gold, chain-style fringe. Here are the products he used:
Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam
Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener
Aveda Air Control Hair Spray
Aveda Brilliant Medium Hold Hair Spray
So how to create on your own with these products? Here’s John’s tips:
“This look can easily be adapted to have a looser, softer feel that’s very chic and modern. Start by blow drying hair straight with Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener. Create a strong middle part and pull hair back into a mid-height ponytail. Loop the ponytail into a looser chignon and secure in place with hair pins.”
