Fashionable Fete
Last Friday night, I was, of course, in NY for Fashion Week and it was Fashion’s Night Out. After the Nicole Miller show in Soho, D. and I made a few rounds around the neighborhood to visit stores, but didn’t really find too much interesting. Mainly, too crowded!! So, we made our way to the I Heart Ronson party at JCPenney, then a quick stop at the hotel to change into something nicer, and headed to Bergdorf Goodman, where I planned to rub elbows with Nicole Richie as we sang karaoke (Jessie’s Girl, anyone?). Um, didn’t happen. The line wrapped around BG a thousand times (and that’s after I cut in line, oopsie). We didn’t want to be late for our dinner reservations, so we pressed on – to ’21’ Club.
I had already eaten lunch here with my mom the summer I was an intern at Seventeen, but I really wanted D. to experience it (plus, dinner) because he is a huge history buff. Turns out, our Table 30 was ‘Bogie’s Corner.” Screen legend Humphrey Bogart sat there (at our table!) on his first date with model/actress Lauren Bacall, his third (and last) wife. (Psst…Mary Kate Olsen’s fav table is Table 6.)
While the dress code is pretty intense (jacket required), and there were def a lot of older, moneymaking folks eating (we didn’t eat until 10 p.m.!), the atmosphere wasn’t too stuffy at all. In fact, the whole staff was really friendly (even the bathroom attendant, God love her, who asked me if I found some good sales during Fashion Week), and they even replaced our sparkling water with tap when they found out D. ordered the wrong thing for me (yep, I can be picky).
The food? I had the sauteed bronzino with manila clams, while D. had the house-made tagliatelle (why do I always want his food??). Both were so very scrumptious and not too heavy. The white wine was incredibly good (can’t remember the name right now because the wine list was literally a BOOK). Creme brulee is our fav dessert because we can always save room for it – and it didn’t disappoint. Yum.
The price wasn’t low, but you get what you pay for. All we wanted for the night was a nice, relaxing atmosphere (void of millions of screaming shoppers) and a good meal. That’s what we got!
P.S. I wore my BCBG sweater dress with a pair of BCBG black suede heels. I carried my faux fur vest with me, just in case. It came in handy when we had to take one of those bicycle rides back to the hotel (I kid you not…laughing about it now).
