The Huffington Post, AOL Host Game Changers Awards
By Sarah Kleinhenz, Guest Blogger
Tuesday night I had the fabulous opportunity to attend the Huffington Post’s 100 Game Changers Awards. This event honored innovators, visionaries and leaders who are changing the way we live today. At the Skylight Soho, we were treated to food and cocktails over mingling and an awards presentation. Several local and national celebrities were in attendance. Countess LuAnn, from the reality show Real Housewives of New York, was there with her boyfriend Jacques. Cynthia McFadden of Dateline NBC, Brian Williams, Governor Cuomo and Dr. Oz were also some of the guests and honorees of the evening. Kim Kardashian was honored for her success in all of her (many!) business ventures. Wearing a gorgeous body-hugging red gown and her hair in a slicked back ponytail, Kim explained that without the support of her parents, she wouldn’t be where she is today – they’re part of why she’s so successful. Gayle King introduced the “1973 Models of Versailles.” These women were the first African-American women to walk the runways of Paris, opening up many doors for future models like Iman, Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks.
The night’s award categories included Politics, Media, Entertainment, Culture, Style, Green, Business and Technology, Sports, World, Food and Travel, Education and Impact, and Healthy Living. Governor Cuomo was honored as the “Game Changer of the Year,” and started the evening off with a very emotional and inspirational speech. He definitely got everyone excited for the evening! I think what The Huffington Post is doing with this event is fabulous! There are so many people getting out and making a difference in their communities – and even on a national level – that it’s truly inspiring. I definitely came away with a drive to volunteer more, and help out my neighborhood and community.
I encourage you to throw your heels on and get out in your community and help make a difference. Whether it’s volunteering at the shelter or soup kitchen, or helping a neighbor reorganize and clean out their closet, no good deed is every looked down upon.
P.S. We’re loving Glamour editor Cindi Leive’s sequin dress and heel combo (bottom photo) – she always looks so spunky and so darn cute!
