Sneak Peek: Milly Fall 2013

Inspiration for designers comes from all sorts of interesting places. Creativity is everywhere, and not always the same for each person. Michelle Smith‘s inspiration for her Milly Fall 2013 collection was the city that many others are ever inspired by: New York City. And when you see this collection, you‘ll get a glimpse of how many ways one city can inspire and create so many wonderful things.
The “city lights” print that Michelle uses for several garments (see the AMAZING pants below), was taken from a picture she took in the West Village at night. A watercolor print was from a painting she was drawn to, and the iridescent skirts and bags were also inspired by the city that never sleeps. There‘s a boxier feel to some of her looks, and she does an amazing job with an update on the sweatshirt. Leopard, zippers, patterns and solids are all options you can get your hands on. Mesh is again seen in some of her dresses, and I just love how gorgeous this looks! Definitely a classic yet with modern twist, everyone can pull off. I mean, how many designers can use blue and black plaid (mostly worn by outdoorsy, burly men) and make it just feminine enough to wear to work or out with girlfriends? Michelle is magic, I tell ya!
Her roomy coats with fun details are going to be flying off the racks. They‘re that one accessory you‘ll have to have to complete any outfit! This collection most certainly says ‘look at me’, and will make you stand out in a crowd of fashion–obsessed ladies. If that’s your game, then you NEED to get you hands on this collection. The possibilities for pairing and outfits are just endless. You can wear the patterns together or mix and match, or just use one piece for that one statement look. I couldn’t get enough of these pieces. Michelle just knows how to make clothes that women are drawn to season after season.
