Lela Rose Resort
I was just thinking how completely amazing it would be to have a closet filled with nothing but Lela Rose. I just adore her clothing (and her!)…she’s an avid bicycle rider (complete with the cutest basket) and rides it around her New York neighborhood. When I tweeted her I was asking for a Schwinn cruiser for my birthday, she said “what a fabulous idea!” Lela’s a down-to-earth southern mom who I feel like I could easily brunch with whenev, and her clothes are nothing short of artwork, like watercolor paintings. Lela pays so much attention to detail, and makes garments that show up in every, single girl’s dreams (um, at least this one’s!). Her runway show was actually one of my very-first at Fashion Week, and to this day, I can’t forget it. Breathtaking!
“The Resort 2013 collection has a distinct imprint of Man Ray’s work during the Dada movement from France in the early 1900’s. His “rayographs”, iconic photography, and Surrealist vision of the female form informed the blocked shapes and graphic fabrics used in the collection. Eyelash and composition jacquard, clock-work fil coupe, and geometric embroideries are folded, laser cut and draped to mimic his striking sensibility. The color palette consisting of mint, blood orange, lapis, emerald and ocean blue are derived from some of his lesser known painting works.” — Lela Rose, designer
The photos here are some of my fav looks from her Resort 2013 collection, and I’m loving the straight-line pencil cut of most of these dresses. Don’t even think you can’t wear one of these, because you can. A pencil silhouette is one of the most flattering – try it and you’ll see. It’s actually a necessity in every closet. (I need to work on that myself…guilty…) While I love the jewel tones in green and blue, plus the trendy splash of mint, I can’t take my eyes off the classic black (and the fun little black floral number a few photos below). The boatneck collar on this black dress above screams my name, and the nipped-in waist is perfect. Lela’s known for her gowns as being wedding-day appropriate, and I have to say I would gladly show up at anyone’s wedding in one of these stunners. Plus, I have just the shoes.
