Perfume Days
The holiday season (which isn’t far away!) always get me in the mood to try out new scents. I’m always a huge fan of anything pumpkin, cinnamon or spice. But when it comes to my perfumes, I lean towards floral and feminine, light and airy. And I’m not much of a fan of vanilla unless you can trick me by adding other notes. So, over the past month, I’ve been sampling a range of different perfumes to get my sniffer in full holiday mode. I would reveal which relative each one tends to suit, but, ahem, I know they’re known for reading this blog. 😉 (Sorry, guys!)
Daisy Marc Jacobs Silver Edition ($88) This is by far my favorite new release. I told you how big of a fan of Marc’s Lola I was last month? Well, Daisy takes the cake with an utterly feminine vibe – jasmine and violet petals and gardenia. Swoon! It’s easy to wear (I feel so sophisticated!) and goes with any mood of the week (if you’re like me this does matter when it comes to scents!). And this special limited-edition bottle is to.die.for. (At fine department stores, of course.)
Harajuku Lovers Snow Bunnies (Limited Edition Collectibles) ($30 each) Ok, if you have any up and coming fashionistas in your family, you must get them at least one of these snow bunnies. So adorable! I’m a huge fan of Gwen Stefani and all she does for fashion and beauty, and these fashionable figurines are the perfect gift. They all have their own scents and personalities, but my fav is “G.” It’s a mix of fresh coconut, soft freesia and coconut cream (among others) – and isn’t it appropriate that’s my nickname for my older sis? (Sorry, G, if you’re looking for hints. This isn’t your present!) P.S. Pick these up at Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom or Bloomies.
My Glow by Jennifer Lopez ($49.50) I know it sounds cheesy (and it’s sooo annoying) that every celeb has their own fragrance now. You hardly know which one to try! Is it another pure moneymaker, or actually for the greater good of us beauty addicts? Available just this month (at HSN, JCPenney, Kohl’s and Sears), My Glow is all that. Feminine, floral and inspired by soaps from JLo’s nursery – awww. Couldn’t resist trying! Think lavender, peony and skin musk and once you spray, you’re off in la-la land. Sigh…
Vanilla & Anise by Jo Malone ($55) Ok, Jo Malone knows fragrances. So, even though I’m not a huge fan of vanillla, I decided to try it out. It’s spicy and does contain vanilla, but it’s a modern interpretation inspired by the floral valleys and spices of Madagascar. Lively and uplifting with grapefruit and mandarin! Now, I’ve got you pining to try, no? It’s actually Jo Malone’s third bestselling fragrance after only a few weeks – not your typical vanilla, beauty mavens. Get it at jomalone.com, Bergdorf Goodman and select Neimans and Saks.
Cashmere Mist Luxe Edition by Donna Karan ($48) Donna Karan is the queen of luxury, and this scent screams it! Celebrating 15 years of luxury, this special Cashmere Mist edition takes it to another level. It reminds me of my favorite cashmere cardi (the best part of winter, no?) and it’s heightened notes of orange flower, creamy moss and amber delight the senses for both fall and winter. I guarantee you someone in your family will be lusting after this one! (Now at fine department stores nationwide.)
Very Hollywood by Michael Kors ($45) Oh-la-la, I’ve been spritzing this darling on for weeks now – love it! At select department and specialty stores this fall, Micheal Kors proves he knows more than just fashion. He knows diamonds are a girl’s best friend and matches his passion for glamour to this fragrance – perfect for your red carpet moment, girls. Check out the Perfume Ring ($40, exclusively at Sephora), but make sure you try the mandarin/ylang ylang/soft white moss concoction in spray form. It will leave you craving the lights of Tinseltown, and make you feel the true star you are. Just fabulous.
YSL Parisienne ($65, for 1.6 oz.) Don’t just love Paris in the springtime, love it in the fall, too! Fronted by Kate Moss, YSL’s brand-new fragrance, Parisienne, is so sexy and sensual, you’ll want to drop the clutch and carry your oversize along so you can keep it on hand. Blackberry, damask rose and sandalwood make it mysterious and your new favorite scent this season. Try it and you’ll be hooked. YSL rehab, anyone?
