FIT Couture Council Annual Summer Party
A couple of weeks ago, we were lucky to attend the FIT Couture Council’s Annual Summer Party at the Central Park Boathouse. (um, we as in Tiffany was, haha…I was there in spirit!) The purpose was to kick off their big drive to sell tickets for their fall award luncheon featuring Valentino (hello, invites for that one, please? The cheapest ticket is $1,000, dubbed the “Fashionista.” A “Haute Couture” table of 10 will cost a cool $25,000.). Tons of fashion designers mingled over Grey Goose cocktails (taking a much-needed break from their collections, no doubt!) – everyone from Zac Posen and Thakoon Panichgul to Maria Cornejo and Raul Melgoza of Luca Luca (can’t wait to see this show next week, by the way). Dr. Valerie Steele, director of the FIT Museum, was among several hosts, and other prominent guests included Glenda Bailey (yep, the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar), stylist Patricia Field (of Sex and the City fame), Carson Kressley and Alex McCord (of New York Housewives).
The Couture Council is a membership group dedicated to supporting the Museum of FIT, which mounts world-class fashion exhibitions and organizes amazing public programs such as the fashion symposium. Did you know this museum is the only museum in NYC solely dedicated to fashion? And it has a collection of more than 50,000 garments and accessories? Ladies and gents, I believe I’ve just filled my first-day itinerary for New York next week.
